Lotus Lanna was formed to bring calm, respectful counsel to families navigating difficult transitions in northern Thailand.

Our Story

Rooted in Chiang Mai, Centred on Families

Lotus Lanna grew from a simple observation: families facing separation or custody disputes rarely needed the most aggressive representation — they needed someone who would sit with them, explain what was actually happening, and help them find a workable path forward.

The practice was established in Chiang Mai with that intention. The name draws on two images that feel right for this work: the lotus, which holds its composure on the surface of turbulent water, and the Lanna tradition of craftsmanship — taking time, doing things properly, not rushing the work that matters.

Today the practice serves Thai families, expatriates living in the north, and international clients with ties to Thailand. The team handles separation guidance, parenting and support arrangements, and full case management for matters proceeding through the courts.

Our Mission

What We Stand For

Honest Communication

We say what we can realistically do. No promises beyond what the law and circumstances permit.

Respect for Both Sides

Family disputes affect everyone involved. We pursue fair outcomes without adding unnecessary conflict.

Discretion Always

Every matter stays private. We handle all information with the care it deserves.

Children at the Centre

Where children are part of the picture, their stability and wellbeing guide every recommendation we make.

How We Work

Professional Standards

Every client engagement is governed by the same commitments to care, accuracy, and professional conduct.

Thai Bar Compliance

All legal practitioners hold current admission to the Lawyers Council of Thailand and abide by its professional conduct rules.

Strict Confidentiality

Client information is protected by legal professional privilege and internal data protocols that exceed the minimum requirements of Thai law.

Document Accuracy

All court documents and agreements are reviewed by senior counsel before submission. We do not file documents we have not verified carefully.

Clear Timelines

We set realistic expectations at the outset and keep clients informed of progress without prompting. No unexplained silences.

Mediation-First Outlook

Where litigation can be avoided, we say so. Mediated agreements tend to hold better and preserve more goodwill, especially when children are involved.

Continuous Development

The team maintains ongoing professional development in Thai family law and cross-border family matters to stay current with legislative and judicial changes.

Family Law Counsel in Northern Thailand

Family law in Thailand is governed by the Civil and Commercial Code, with dedicated provisions covering marriage, divorce, parental authority, child support, and property division. Navigating these provisions is often more complex than it first appears, particularly for families with international elements — different nationalities, assets in multiple countries, or children who have lived abroad.

Lotus Lanna operates from Chiang Mai's Charoen Prathet district, serving clients across the Chiang Mai metropolitan area and those travelling from elsewhere in northern Thailand. The practice focuses exclusively on family-related matters, which means the team builds genuine depth rather than dividing attention across unrelated legal areas.

Separation matters proceed differently depending on whether both parties are willing to cooperate. When cooperative, the process can be straightforward: a written agreement, registration at the district office, and clear arrangements for any shared responsibilities. When parties cannot agree, the courts provide a mechanism for resolution, though proceedings take longer and require more preparation.

Parenting arrangements — covering where children live, how contact is structured, and how financial support is calculated — are among the most sensitive matters the team handles. The team's approach is to pursue arrangements that work practically for the children involved, rather than treating custody as a competition to be won.

Lotus Lanna also supports expatriates and foreign nationals resident in Thailand who face family law proceedings. Understanding both Thai legal process and the concerns of clients from different cultural backgrounds is a particular strength of the practice.
